Michael Keaton Says Catherine O’Hara Was Unlike Anyone Else In Hollywood

Michael Keaton is reflecting on his decades-long friendship with Catherine O’Hara in a deeply emotional tribute that has touched longtime fans of both stars. According to TIME, the actor shared heartfelt memories of working alongside the legendary actress across several projects, revealing the warmth, humor, and genuine connection they shared both on and off screen.

The tribute comes months after O’Hara’s reported passing at the age of 71, with Keaton recalling not only her brilliance as a performer but also the kindness and attention she brought into everyday conversations and friendships. His words painted a portrait of someone whose impact stretched far beyond comedy and film sets.

Michael Keaton Remembers A Friendship Filled With Laughter

In the emotional essay, Michael Keaton recounted a memorable backstage moment the pair shared during the Oscars two years earlier. Just minutes before presenting an award together, the two actors came up with a comedic entrance bit that ultimately received little audience reaction once they walked on stage.

Even so, the actor admitted he still replayed the moment in his head afterward, not because the joke failed, but because he cared so deeply about working alongside someone he admired so much. He described collaborating with O’Hara on projects like the Beetlejuice films, The Paper, and Game 6 as one of the greatest joys of his career.

A Tribute Filled With Love And Admiration

Throughout the tribute, Keaton repeatedly emphasized the rare quality O’Hara possessed both as a comedian and as a person. He explained that whenever she listened to someone speak, she gave them her complete attention, carrying what he described as a special “twinkle” and warmth that made people feel seen and valued.

Michael Keaton also shared the heartbreak of plans they never got to fulfill. The two had discussed getting together for dinner with O’Hara’s husband, Bo, earlier this year before her passing. In one particularly moving moment, the actor revealed that after unexpectedly seeing a clip of her on television, he fell asleep saddened, only to wake himself moments later laughing at the memory of her humor and spirit.
