According to Deadline, the performer first gained attention as a dancer with the famous Folies Bergère revue in Las Vegas. During that time, she met singer Andy Williams, whom she later married in 1961 before eventually having three children together.

Claudine Longet later launched a successful entertainment career that included television appearances, film roles, and music recordings throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. She appeared on popular shows such as Hogan’s Heroes, McHale’s Navy, and Love, American Style, while frequently joining Williams on his television specials. Her soft, breathy singing voice also helped her achieve success as a recording artist. Albums such as Claudine and The Look of Love introduced audiences to her interpretations of songs by The Beatles, Randy Newman, and other major songwriters of the era.

A Tragic Shooting Changed Her Public Legacy Forever

After divorcing Williams in 1975, the actress began a relationship with Olympic skier Spider Sabich while living in Colorado. In March 1976, Sabich died after a gunshot wound inside the chalet the couple shared, leading to one of the most heavily publicized celebrity trials of the decade.

Claudine Longet claimed the shooting happened accidentally while Sabich demonstrated how the firearm worked. A jury later convicted her of criminally negligent homicide, sentencing her to probation, a fine, and a short jail term, though the outcome sparked outrage among many supporters of the skier. The case effectively ended her entertainment career and inspired widespread media attention, parody sketches, and even songs referencing the tragedy. After the trial, she married defense attorney Ronald Austin and spent the remainder of her life largely away from public attention.
