The late Leonard Nimoy is most famous for playing Spock from Star Trek for nearly five decades, and even years after his death, he remains an unforgettable fan favorite. He passed away from end-stage Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in 2015 after years of smoking since teenhood.
His son, director Adam Nimoy, recently took to social media with heartfelt memories through photos and narrations of their memorable time together. Among the many posts was a black-and-white shot featuring Nimoy as he helped fix little Adam’s bike.
Fans react to Leonard Nimoy’s son’s touching posts
A fanzine photographer came to our house in West LA to capture a day in the life of Leonard Nimoy. The story behind this picture is so typical of my dad; “Adam, on the service porch is my toolbox and in it you’ll find a screwdriver…” pic.twitter.com/B5dXIXbGRg

Fans of Nimoy flocked to Adam’s comments section with nostalgia and touching words about the late star. Many thanked him for “sharing your memories,” noting that it was refreshing to see “Spock” as a real-life dad. “Your father had such a comforting, deep, measured voice!” someone quipped, with another teasing that they could hear the caption, “Adam, on the service porch is my toolbox, and in it, you’ll find a screwdriver from the photo.”

Another post showed Nimoy in character, complete with a phaser in hand. Adam recalled the “memorable experience” behind the photo—the very first promotional photo of Spock, which they would often send out to fans who wrote in. Adam also included a family picture with himself in a “pure vintage blue Hang Ten T-shirt.”

Adam also shared a photo from Nimoy’s surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live in 2009, showing the film icon with Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine from another Star Trek movie that premiered days before at the time. Adam and his sister Julie have proven to hold their father’s memory dear as they co-run the Leonard Nimoy Memorial at the Museum of Science.
Adam also released For the Love of Spock in 2016 and has a book titled The Most Human: Reconciling with My Father, Leonard Nimoy, in the works. He revealed that the “Spockumentary” was intended as a father-son project, but after Nimoy’s death, he centered it around him instead. The film gave insight into Nimoy’s life and career, with interviews from William Shatner, director J.J. Abrams, Seth McFarlane, and Zachary.
