According to MSN, the couple now divides their time between Los Angeles and Palm Springs while maintaining what Hamel described as living together “lightly.” He explained that they enjoy spending time together while still respecting each other’s personal space and independence. Alan Hamel and Joan Cassidy reportedly celebrated their one-year anniversary after first connecting through Hamel’s son, producer Stephen Hamel. Stephen introduced the idea after meeting Cassidy at an event and realizing the two might enjoy each other’s company.

The actor revealed that Cassidy already had a connection to both him and Somers from years earlier. She previously appeared on his Canadian talk show and later worked alongside Somers in the 1985 miniseries Hollywood Wives. Hamel said their first date lasted three days because they immediately felt a strong connection and enjoyed each other’s company from the start.
Hamel Says Suzanne Somers Wanted Him To Find Love Again

The producer also shared that Somers encouraged him before her death not to spend the rest of his life grieving alone. He explained that she wanted him to eventually find happiness and companionship again when the time felt right.
Alan Hamel and Joan Cassidy now spend their time enjoying simple outings together, including dinners, dancing, and nights out listening to live music. Hamel described Cassidy as someone who naturally draws attention whenever she enters a room because of her vibrant personality and energy. Although he still deeply misses Somers, Hamel said he feels grateful to have found companionship again later in life. He added that he tries not to focus heavily on either the past or the future, choosing instead to appreciate the time and relationships he has today.
