For many fans, Charlie’s Angels represented glamour, action, and unforgettable fashion. But behind the scenes, not every style choice came easily for the actresses who brought the show to life.

For Cheryl Ladd, one particular wardrobe expectation became something she eventually decided to push back against. Her story offers a glimpse into how she balanced professionalism with personal comfort during one of television’s most iconic eras.

Standing Her Ground on Set

While speaking at the Charlie’s Angels 50th anniversary celebration at PaleyFest, Ladd reflected on her time playing Kris Munroe. Although she described the show as a major turning point in her career, she admitted there were moments that challenged her.

According to People, she grew tired of frequently being asked to wear bikinis on the show, a request that often came from executive producer Aaron Spelling. Rather than continue feeling uncomfortable, she chose a clever way to address the situation. Ladd deliberately selected the smallest bikini she could find and wore it on set. When Spelling objected, she reminded him that she had simply followed his request. That moment marked a turning point, effectively ending the expectation.

Despite that challenge, Ladd has always spoken fondly of her time on Charlie’s Angels. She joined the series in its second season in 1977, stepping into a role that quickly became a defining part of her career. The show opened doors for her in film, music, and theater, allowing her to explore the full range of talents she had dreamed of as a child. From acting roles to a Top 40 music hit, her career expanded in ways she credits to that early opportunity.

The recent reunion with co-stars Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith also reminded her how strong those connections remain. Even after decades, the cast slipped easily back into their dynamic, sharing laughter and memories. In the end, Ladd’s story is about more than a wardrobe disagreement. It reflects a moment of quiet confidence—one where she asserted herself while continuing to shine in a role that shaped her life.
