Mickey Rourke Slams GoFundMe Efforts From Fans, Sparks Confusion And Concern

For much of his career, Mickey Rourke has lived by his own rules. Known for his intensity on and off screen, he has often rejected Hollywood conventions and public sympathy. That mindset came into focus again after news spread of a Mickey Rourke GoFundMe campaign created to help him avoid eviction from his Los Angeles rental home.

According to People, the GoFundMe surfaced after the actor received a notice demanding payment of more than $59,000 in alleged back rent. Supporters quickly donated, pushing the fundraiser close to its goal. However, Rourke soon stepped forward to distance himself from the campaign, creating confusion about how and why it began.

Mickey Rourke Publicly Rejects the GoFundMe

In a video shared on social media, Rourke addressed the GoFundMe directly and said he never approved it. He described feeling frustrated and embarrassed by the situation. Rourke made it clear that asking the public for money does not align with who he is.

He also explained that he does not understand crowdfunding platforms and would never seek financial help from fans. Although the campaign stated it was created with his permission, Rourke denied that claim. He added that he plans to speak with his lawyer while urging supporters to stop donating and request refunds.

Pride, Reflection, and a Difficult Chapter

While addressing the GoFundMe, the actor reflected on his career and personal history. He admitted that he had handled many professional situations poorly in the past. Rourke spoke about years of therapy and personal growth, stressing that he no longer identifies with earlier versions of himself.

Despite his objections, the GoFundMe continued to raise money. Rourke clarified that he borrowed funds from a close friend to manage his immediate housing needs. He reassured fans that he plans to return to work and remains focused on moving forward. For many observers, the moment revealed a complex portrait of an artist grappling with pride, vulnerability, and the lasting weight of a turbulent career.
