Mickey Rourke’s latest reality TV appearance has taken a shocking turn after he launched into a homophobic rant during an episode of Celebrity Big Brother UK. The 72-year-old, who is known for being brash, made the remark about fellow Big Brother housemate JoJo Siwa, sparking anger among fans and fellow housemates.
Rourke made inappropriate comments regarding her sexual orientation, suggesting that he could “make her straight.” The incident sparked outrage on social media, and the production team of the show acted quickly. The audience criticized Rourke’s creepy nature as unacceptable and were concerned for Siwa.

Rourke’s actions on Celebrity Big Brother UK incite anger on social media, as he continued interrogating Siwa’s sexuality even after she explained that her partner is non-binary. Rourke dismissed her response, stating that she would no longer be gay if he stayed longer in the house. Siwa stood her ground, reaffirming her sexuality and happy relationship.
Things escalated when Rourke indirectly made a homophobic remark against Siwa with a slur. Even though he claimed he was referring to a cigarette, the timing and context of his words made his statement appear to be homophobic. The singer later confronted Rourke for discussing voting her out real quick.
Producers step in with formal warning
The producers summoned Rourke to the Diary Room, where he was reminded of the rules governing the use of profanity. They played out the exchange back on tape and formally warned him that additional such behavior would have him evicted from the show. Rourke apologized, telling them that he did not intend to hurt anyone.
Despite his apology, the fans and LGBTQ+ activist groups are demanding stronger action, citing that a formal warning is not enough. The majority believe that the network must stand stronger against hate speech and set an example by placing greater emphasis on the safety and dignity of all housemates.
