Bardot rose to international fame with the 1956 film And God Created Woman, directed by her then-husband Roger Vadim. The film attracted worldwide attention for its portrayal of sensuality and helped propel Bardot into global stardom. In the years that followed, she appeared in dozens of films in France and internationally, becoming known for a screen presence and style that were widely copied.

By the late 1960s and early 1970s, Bardot was among the most famous actresses in European cinema. She worked with directors including Louis Malle and Jean-Luc Godard and appeared in films such as The Truth and Contempt. She retired from acting in 1973, but her earlier film work continued to influence cinema and public perceptions of female screen roles.

After leaving the film industry, Bardot devoted her life to animal welfare activism. In 1986, she founded the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the welfare and protection of animals, funding it in part with her own resources. She became a vocal opponent of practices such as fur farming and seal hunting and remained deeply involved in animal protection efforts for decades.

Bardot’s later years were also marked by controversy stemming from outspoken political statements that led to multiple convictions in French courts for inciting racial hatred. She publicly supported far-right political figures and causes in France, including backing Marine Le Pen. Despite ongoing criticism of her views, Bardot remained a highly visible and polarizing public figure until her final years.
