In February, People confirmed that Hulu was moving forward with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. The original series ran from 1997 to 2003, winning a devoted following for its mix of action, wit, and heartfelt moments. Now, Oscar-winning Chloé Zhao directs and executive produces the pilot. Meanwhile, Nora and Lila Zuckerman take on writing and showrunning duties.
In addition, Gellar joins as an executive producer, showing her dedication to protecting the legacy of the character. The producing team also includes Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzui, and Dolly Parton. Parton was an uncredited producer on the original show through her company, Sandollar Entertainment.
A New Slayer Steps Forward
In May, Gellar shared a touching video offering Ryan Kiera Armstrong the role of the newest Chosen One in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. “Will you stand by my side and save the world?” she asked. Armstrong accepted, and Gellar replied, “Welcome to new Sunnydale.”
Since then, Gellar has posted glimpses from table reads and training sessions with Armstrong. As a result, excitement has only grown. Fans are now counting the days until Buffy and her team return to face supernatural threats once more.
