In 2022, while Lohan was filming her Netflix movie Falling for Christmas, she got a message from Curtis. “It said, ‘Hey, baby, I’m just texting you because I had this idea,'” Lohan recalled. That message led to months of conversations between the two, which eventually resulted in a full sequel being greenlit by Disney.
For Curtis, the timing was perfect. She had just won her first Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once and was ready to revisit the character. Lohan, who had been slowly returning to acting after years away from the spotlight, saw it as a chance to work again with someone she trusted deeply. Both agreed that if they were going to return, it had to feel real, not just funny, but honest.
