Neil Sedaka And Grandson Light Up TikTok With Rendition Of ’60s Hit ‘Breaking Up Is Hard To Do’

85-year-old music icon Neil Sedaka got TikTok users talking with a video of himself and his grandson, Mike, performing a duet of his hit song Breaking Up Is Hard to Do. They sat at a piano and charmed viewers with their smooth harmonies and heartwarming chemistry.

Just days before, the duo wowed the audience with another duet, singing Sedaka’s 1961 ballad “Must Be Dreaming.” Sedaka praised Mike’s musical talent, saying he inherited his musical genes. Mike, who sings and plays piano, showcases his skills on social media by posting covers of Billy Joel and Ed Sheeran’s songs.

Neil Sedaka has had a successful run in music, with hits spanning from the ’50s to the ’80s, including classics like “Oh! Carol,” “Calendar Girl,” and “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do.” He reimagined “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do” as a ballad in the mid-70s, and it soared to the top of the Adult Contemporary charts, earning him a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year.

 

Even covers of Neil’s songs have become chart-toppers for other bands, including The Carpenters and Captain & Tennille, with the latter earning a Grammy nod for “Love Will Keep Us Together.” Among many well-deserved accolades, Neil was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983.
