In a surprise Instagram announcement made on Monday, January 6th, Signature Theatre revealed that Brendan Fraser, who was initially set to star in the upcoming play Grangeville, would no longer be participating in the project. The 56-year-old was slated to play the lead role of Jerry, opposite Sense8 actor Brian J. Smith, in the new production written by Samuel D. Hunter and directed by Jack Serio, but due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ Fraser was forced to withdraw from the production.

Moving swiftly, the Theatre also disclosed that Paul Sparks, a talented actor with a prior history of collaboration with the theatre, would be taking over the role of Jerry. Sparks had previously worked with Signature Theatre on the 2018 production of Edward Albee’s At Home at the Zoo, demonstrating his impressive range and versatility as a performer.
