Two-time Primetime Emmy Award winner Kathy Bates attended the 2025 Golden Globe Award as a presenter and a nominee for her role in the show Matlock. She showed up to the venue looking in a blazer, black pants, and a pair of sneakers. Though previously impressed by Kathy’s transformation, some fans couldn’t help but raise concern over her appearance after the drastic weight loss.
Kathy co-presented the award for Best Supporting Actress alongside actor Anthony Ramos to Jessica Gunning of Baby Reindeer; however, Kathy lost to Anna Sawai for the Best Performance by an Actress award category. She reacted by ripping her award speech, and videos of the moment have been circulating on social media.

Kathy Bates’ health over the years
She has battled health issues over the course of her career. She was diagnosed with stage II ovarian cancer in 2003, after which she underwent a hysterectomy to get rid of her ovaries and fallopian tubes. About a decade later, the film icon was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and had to undergo a double mastectomy.
She also suffered from type 2 diabetes and made some lifestyle changes as a result, leading to her dropping a whopping 80 lbs and an additional 20 pounds from using Ozempic, a diabetes medication. Kathy admitted that losing weight helped with her symptoms.
