Boy George got slammed by critics after Sunday night’s performance at the O2 in London, which was the last of nine dates for Culture Club’s UK tour. The 63-year-old took the lead, wearing a patterned suit jacked covered in sticky notes, complete with a disco top hat that matched his colorful makeup.
Behind Boy George were backup dancers wearing fabulous outfits and special stage effects. The rendition of their ‘80s classic was met with bad reviews from critics, who thought the backing singers were the only reason Boy George’s performance was manageable.

A Times critic noted that his good looks and the beautiful stage did not cover up for bad vocals, which he deemed Culture Club’s only problem. “Sure it hasn’t been good for some time. Here it was weak at best, often inaudible and occasionally terribly out of tune,” he said.
The critic added that the rest of the band was under pressure to make up for the singer’s terrible leading. “The backing vocalists kept the songs buoyant and in some cases completely took over,” he added, while another reviewer said Boy George might be over-performing after 40 years in show business.
Is the singer tired of performing?
Some critics pointed out that Boy George looked happier when he was not singing. He stopped for a chat about pastimes squatting around and his longtime friend Naomi Campbell before she got famous. While speaking, Boy George was reportedly more animated and energetic.
While fans think Boy George may be taking a back seat from performing, the singer-songwriter shows no signs of taking a break as he is set to tour Australia and New Zealand with Culture Club next year. They will also have back-to-back concerts in European cities this summer. Hopefully, he will redeem himself and make a better comeback at these upcoming shows.
