75-Year-Old ‘Cheers’ Star Shelley Long Spotted Days After Costar Was Spotted In Wheelchair

Shelley Long was seen on the streets of Los Angeles with her Cheers co-star George Wendt, who recently raised concerns after he was seen in a wheelchair at a dialysis center. Long and Wendt’s hangout comes a day after the latter visited the clinic, and they strolled with a small white dog.

Shelley wore a gray L.L. Bean zip-up with matching sweatpants over a black turtleneck top, while Wendt wore black jeans and a black top with a navy blue shirt over it. The latter looked significantly healthier than the previous day, as he was up and walking with a more cheerful demeanor.

After playing Diane Chambers on Cheers for five out of eleven seasons, Shelley struggled to maintain fame outside of the fan-favorite sitcom but starred in a few productions like Outrageous Fortune and Fatal Memories: The Eileen Franklin Story.

Her personal life also took a hit with yet another divorce in the early 2000s. She split from her second husband, Bruce Tyson, in 2004, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason. Although she has maintained a low profile in recent years, Shelley made a brief return to acting for 2021’s The Cleaner and 2022’s Give Me Pity.

Shelley Long and George Wendt grew closer after ‘Cheers’

Unlike Shelley, Wendt played Norm Peterson throughout the 11 seasons of Cheers, which ended in 1993. They reunited for a Christmas-themed Lifetime original, Merry-in-Laws, in 2012, where they played Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. Shelley admitted that the only reason she accepted the role was that Wendt would be in the film, too.

She noted that Merry-In-Laws brought her closer with Wendt, as she did not bond with most of her Cheers castmates. She mentioned during an interview with Channel Guide that contrary to his Cheers character, Wendt is shy and quiet in real life, so it was on her to pull some tricks while filming the holiday movie to spice things up.
