In his new memoir, From Under the Truck, Josh Brolin gave an account of a memorable encounter with John Travolta at Barbra Streisand’s house. His dad, James Brolin, Barbra, Marlon Brando, and Kelly Preston were also present in Barbra’s living room at that moment.
They all gathered for a dinner party by Barbra, and it was Josh’s first time meeting Brando. Things took a different turn that evening as Brando arrived at Barbra’s home with an injury, but Travolta took charge of the situation using Scientology techniques.
How did John Travolta help Marlon Brando using Scientology?
Brando had blood dripping down his pant leg as he alighted from his car, explaining that he sustained an injury while trying to pull a cat from a landslide on the Pacific Coast highway. Travolta immediately announced that he would help cure Brando because he just reached a new level in Scientology.
Brando lay face down with his eyes closed while Travolta placed one hand on his leg and the other on his chest. Josh recalled feeling starstruck and shocked as he watched two of his favorite actors in that interesting moment. After a while, Brando stood up, looking and feeling better, to everyone’s surprise.
Marlon Brando inspired Josh Brolin’s acting career
Josh admitted in his memoir that Brando was the reason he got into acting as a teenager because he grew up watching his movies and those of James Dean. The 56-year-old added that a lifestyle change also inspired his career, as he moved in with his dad at 16, after years of trauma and drug addiction under his mother’s care.
Josh’s mother, Jane, was a wildlife conservationist but also an alcoholic and drug addict. He wrote about how she would send wild animals after him and his brother for sport while making them do hard work on the farm as little boys. James married Barbra, who helped Josh achieve sobriety three years after Jane’s death from a crash.
