Jamey Johnson Is Ste To Release Toby Keith's New Music

Jamey Johnson was working on new music with Toby Keith before Keith died of stomach cancer in February. A few months after the sad loss, Jamey is set to share their creation with the world, which comes after Keith’s last album Peso in My Pocket Back.

Despite his diagnosis in 2022, Keith never stopped working and even received the Icon Award at the People’s Choice Country Awards last year. During the awards ceremony, he delivered an outstanding rendition of “Don’t Let The Ships Come In,” which was his last single until now.

Jamey recalled their laughter-filled sessions together, and how he planned to visit the late legend in Oklahoma or set up a meeting during a golf tournament so they could finish their song. One of their last phone conversations birthed a verse for the track, as they exchanged ideas virtually.

Sadly, Keith passed away before they could wrap up the song, leaving Jamey to figure out its release. The singer-songwriter admits he is unsure when Keith’s posthumous release will make it to the airwaves, especially because his friends and family are still dealing with the loss.

Jamey Johnson was shocked about Toby Keith’s passing

Explaining why they stalled so much on their collaboration, Jamey said he did not expect Keith to die so suddenly. He recalled how Keith would assure him that his health was okay, even until the very month he conceded to cancer. Jamey’s shock at Keith’s death was not unusual, as fans and supporters were equally taken aback by the news.

Keith left behind his wife Tricia Lucus and their children Shelley Covel Rowland, Krystal LaDawn Covel Sandubrae, and Stelen Keith Covel, plus four grandchildren. He battled cancer for more than two years, undergoing chemotherapy, radiation treatment and surgeries during that time.
