Pee-Wee’s Playhouse’s Lynne Marie Stewart Recalls Last Conversation With Paul Reubens Before His Death

It has been a year since Pee-wee’s Playhouse‘s star Lynne Marie Stewart lost her co-star Paul Reubens to acute hypoxic respiratory failure. Thankfully, Marie has many precious memories to hold on to, including their last meeting at the hospital.

She recalled how at peace and relaxed Reubens appeared, noting that he had his sense of humor until the very end. She also made sure to remind him of how much love his fans and the world has for him and his legacies.

Paul Reubens kept his health condition private until his death

Reubens’ health issues were kept under wraps until his representative issued a statement after his passing. He apologized for his secrecy and thanked his fans for supporting him regardless. Unknown to many, Reubens suffered from acute myelogenous leukemia and was also diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer.

Despite battling two different kinds of cancer, Reubens hardly passed up a chance to give back and was, in fact, working on a memoir before his passing. His team is reportedly working on publishing the book posthumously.

Career ups and downs

Reubens was best known for his CBS children’s show Pee-Wee’s Playhouse which earned him two Emmy awards and put him on the map in Hollywood. He also proved his range by starring in the likes of Batman Returns, Mystery Men, Blow, and Life During Wartime.

His career was not without a few dents, as he got charged with indecent exposure at a theater in Florida in 1991. Child porn was also discovered in his possession, but the charges got dropped, with Reubens claiming he simply collected erotica.
