John Lennon’s Son Has One Crucial Way Of Keeping His Father’s Legacy Alive

The late John Lennon’s son, Sean Ono, recently had a chat with The Sunday Times while promoting the re-release of his father’s 1973 solo album, Mind Games. Sean is taking it upon himself to preserve John’s legacy through music, as evidenced by his latest release.

The 48-year-old believes society forgets things easily these days, and the late legend’s music means too much to be erased. It has been 44 years since the Beatles frontman was gunned down by a certain Mark David Chapman near his New York City apartment, and life has not been the same for Sean ever since.

Sean was only five when John was murdered, but he has managed to connect with him via music. In Sean’s words, John’s lyrics are like a diary, giving him a peek into what life was like during the making of each song as the talented rocker got personal with his songwriting.

For example, John was reportedly in a fix when he created Mind Games in the early ’70s. At the time, he left his wife and Sean’s mother, Yoko Ono for their assistant May Pang. Interestingly, Yoko was in on this affair and pretty much initiated it to have some control after their breakup still.

Chip off the old block

It is not far-fetched to say Sean was a reincarnation of John as they share the same birthdays. Like his dad, Sean is also a talented musician with three solo albums so far and with his psychedelic rock band, The Claypool Lennon Delirium. He has also collaborated with Yoko on several projects and has worked as a producer for other artists, including Lana Del Ray.

Sean is not the only young and thriving musician in the Lennon household; he also bonds over music with his older step-brother Julian Charles Lennon, who was born to John and his first wife, Cynthia. He has released up to seven studio albums and is into photography, filmmaking and writing, with a children’s book titled Touch the Earth to his name. Sean says he talks with Julian almost every day, and they cherish each other deeply.
