Rory Feek is experiencing love again after enduring the worst kind of anguish. 59-year-old country music star Feek has remarried, eight years after suffering the devastating loss of his second wife, Joey, who was 40 years old when she passed away.

Joey was a country singer-songwriter who worked with her husband Rory as the duo formally known as Joey + Rory. The couple tied the knot in 2002 and remained together until her death on March 4, 2016. After such emotional agony, Feek says he feels “blessed to love again,” and that source of love appeared close to home.

I sang at a wedding this past weekend,” Feek shared of the event that was put together on “short notice.” His blog post goes on to reveal, “Rebecca and I had committed to be together. To choose each other and see where it might lead. And although we knew marriage was a possibility, it wasn’t something that either of us felt like we could seriously talk about.”

Part of that is because of the unique role Rebecca has already played in his and his family’s lives. She was actually the teacher of Feek’s 10-year-old daughter, Indiana. As a result, Feek shared, “Indiana only saw Rebecca as ‘Miss Rebecca’ her schoolteacher and our friend.” As feelings mounted between the two, Feek resolved to let Indiana come to an understanding on her own.

Honoring the past and future

Feek and Rebecca tied the knot “under a beautiful timber-frame pavilion,” as detailed in his blog post. Indiana was in attendance, as were several family members and select close friends. Feek went on to add a special touch that only he could provide by performing a song he wrote just for the occasion called “I Do.” Both the guests and the bride alike were stunned by this special surprise.

“I found myself thinking about how blessed I was to be given the opportunity to love again,” Feek mused, reflecting upon the song’s inspiration. “To not only feel loved but to have the chance to give love once more. To be the person who gets to spend my life making Rebecca happy.”

She had been diagnosed with cancer, which was declared terminal in November 2015.
