Andrew McCarthy did a Hulu documentary about the Brat Pack, which consists of today’s star actors when they were much younger. It was not necessarily a reunion, as Andrew had to meet each of them across varying locations to conduct interviews.
Andrew was lucky to meet some cast members who gladly shared their experiences with him for the short film. However, Molly Ringwald and Judd Nelson were noticeably absent from the movie save for throwback clips, for reasons Andrew eventually shared.
Molly Ringwald and Judd Nelson turned down the ‘BRATS’ documentary
Andrew’s offer to interview Molly and Judd was met with rejection for reasons he understood quite well. He told Entertainment Tonight about the changes that have happened over the years, with a few members of the Brat Pack disconnecting and moving farther from each other. Molly and Judd did not consent to the conversation but only featured in archival footage from way back.

Stars like Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Lea Thompson, Timothy Hutton, and John Cryer, who co-starred alongside Molly and Andrew in 1986’s Pretty In Pink, were present for the chat with Andrew. Emilio admitted to being hesitant to partake in the documentary at first but considered it an opportunity to “clear the air” and resolve old conflicts.
The Brat Pack
The term Brat Pack all started with a 1985 story written by New York reporter David Blum, who coined the phrase that has lasted for decades. Interestingly, the group hated the term “Brat Pack” because it made them appear like unserious happy-go-lucky young people without true talent. Blum simply wanted to draw attention to the set of brilliant young actors starring in coming-of-age movies such as St. Elmo’s Fire back then.
The long-lasting phrase was inspired by the “Rat Pack” of the ‘40s and ‘50s consisting of the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Angie Dickinson. Andrew confessed that the group cast a shadow over his life and career, causing him to get curious about his mate’s perspectives and unique experiences.
