Most people consider birthdays a time to celebrate and be celebrated, however, comedy star Jerry Seinfeld does not have “any interest” in festivities as he recently turned 70. During a recent appearance on an episode of Today with Hoda and Jenna, the actor talked about his view on life and what he plans to incorporate going forward.

For Jerry, the new milestone is a pointer to how far he has grown from being a boy to a man hence he has to take life easy. The actor plans to adopt a rather simple approach to life instead of prioritizing things.

Also, during the discussion Jerry touched on the difficulties he has encountered so far in his five-decade-long career. Despite having a successful career, the actor claimed he sometimes experiences a “darkening mood,” where he feels everything happening in his life doesn’t make sense. Thankfully, during this dark phase, Jerry likes to immerse himself in work as he claims that “Work is the best antidote.”

He added that a “darkening mood” is inevitable, and though it is scary sometimes, he would still prefer to experience it because he sometimes gets the best inspiration and ideas for work in that phase. “I would never want to not have that if I would lose the creative gift that came with it. It’s part of it,” he explained. “It’s probably an overactive brain.”

Even at 70, Jerry intends to keep working hard at his already established career, which has earned him a spot as the 12th-greatest stand-up comedian of all time per Comedy Central. Away from work, he is directing much of his focus inward to becoming a better person irrespective of other people’s opinions about him.

Jerry also quoted Roman philosopher Marcus Aurelius’s quote on “focus” and self-reflection to drive home his point about investing time in himself to be a better person. The actor added that he is anticipating negative reviews ahead of his upcoming movie, Unfrosted which will be released in May, and he now has the emotional strength to deal with it.
