Writer-producer Judalina Neira’s new production company, Famous Last Words, is collaborating with Sony Pictures Television to reboot a ‘60s classic sitcom that ran for eight seasons. Bewitched aired from 1964 to 1972 and featured screen icons like Duke York, Elizabeth Montgomery, and Agnes Moorehead.
This is not the first time a revival series for the show has been pitched, as Kenya Barris and Yamara Taylor proposed one to ABC in 2018, and a kids’ animated version is in progress. The new Bewitched is an hour-long remake of the original, and Neira—who has credits for The Boys and Daisy Jones & the Six—will be joined by Doug Robinson and Lauren Moffat.
The Head of Creative for Sony Pictures, Lauren Stein, shared a statement with Deadline about Neira’s work ethic and their upcoming production with her. “Judalina joined the Sony family with her work on ‘The Boys,’ and we are incredibly proud of her contributions to supporting creator Eric Kripke’s vision,” she started.
Lauren also noted that Neira “brings passion and authenticity and has been such a champion for the representation and growth of Latinx writers. We knew we had to make a deal with her! We are so excited to have her call Sony home and can’t wait for what is to come as we deepen our relationship.”
Having worked with Sony before launching her production house, Neira “couldn’t be more amped to join forces with them for this next big step in my career. Under our newly launched Famous Last Words Productions, I’m excited to both write and produce a full slate of hooky character-forward shows that dish up delight with bite.”
While the cast of the reboot is yet to be revealed, reiterations of the original characters are expected to appear in the reimagined version. Neira might as well recruit actors from her former sets like Riley Keough, who played the lead role as Daisy Jones in 2023’s Daisy Jones and The Six, Camila Morrone, Suki Waterhouse, Nabiyah Be, or The Boys’ Erin Moriarty, who looks a lot like Samantha Montgomery.
