Catherine O’Hara initially gained widespread recognition as a cast member on the sketch comedy show SCTV (Second City Television) from 1976 to 1984. Her comedic talent and ability to embody diverse characters showcased her skill and paved the way for a flourishing career in film and television.

In 1990, she earned critical acclaim for her role as Kate McCallister — a resourceful mother attempting to reunite with her son — in the beloved holiday film Home Alone. The 69-year-old recently reflected on her time in the American comedy film, particularly sharing a unique insight and expressing disbelief regarding how fast her on-screen son, Macaulay Culkin, has aged.

That’s older than I was when I played his mother!” the 69-year-old told the news outlet. “I think I was 32.”

Catherine O’Hara recently eulogized Macaulay Culkin

O’Hara was present at Culkin’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony last year, where she eulogized the 43-year-old, emphasizing his contribution to the popularity of the Home Alone franchise. “Home Alone was, is and always will be a beloved global sensation, the reason families all over the world can’t let a year go by without watching and loving Home Alone together is because of Macaulay Culkin,” O’Hara admitted. “You so deserve your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once but twice, to share in this happy occasion. I’m so proud of you.”

“I didn’t know he’d be standing beside me when I spoke,” she confessed. “So it was much more personal than I knew it would be,” she added. “I really wanted to honor him because he worked so hard as a child. You don’t appreciate that. It’s hard to appreciate that a child is really working. But he really made it look natural.”
