The sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife is joining the league of highly anticipated releases for this year. More interestingly, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will feature a more intense plot twist, including a shift in authority between Dan Aykroyd’s Ray and Ernie Hudson’s Winston.
Frozen Empire will pay more attention to Winston, who, as portrayed in the last installment ending, has more resources to bring back ghostbusting on a bigger scale, and this causes an altercation with Ray. Dan, whose character founded the Ghostbusters group, updated fans about what to forward to in a recent interview.
What to expect from ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’
In his conversation with Empire, Dan gave a peek into the new storyline that features Winston as the shot-caller. “Ray’s been retired! He’s got fitness problems, insurance problems,” he explained. “[Winston] decides Ray should step back from the ghostbusting frontline and just be an advisor.”

Dan further shared that his character hated Winston’s suggestion that he lay back. “Ray does not like this. Gozer’s gone, but there’s an equally terrible threat emerging from Queens— by way of the Indus Valley— and Ray wants to be out there, driving the Cadillac,” he continued.
Ernie is excited about the new development
Ernie is glad that his character has developed from an add-on to a crucial one. “Winston, having his big corporation and the money to fund some things, really gives him a purpose and place to be,” he told The Sci-Fi & Fantasy Gazette. “I love that and love playing a part of the story where I can help move things forward … I’m very happy to be part of that franchise. I love it.”
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be available in theaters from March 22, 2024, featuring the return of Annie Potts’ Janine and William Atherton’s Walter Peck. “I think the fans will like the new ones as well. There’s a lot going on, and I was really happy to see Bill not just back in it, but to be really enthusiastic about it,” Ernie added. “And Danny and Annie. It was fun. We’ve finished it up and will wait to see what it all comes together and looks like.”
