Jeopardy! enthusiasts were taken aback when Mayim Bialik revealed on Instagram that she would be stepping down from hosting the show’s syndicated version earlier this month. In her post, she indicated that Sony Pictures Television, the producers of the popular gameshow, had communicated her departure from the syndicated show. This announcement sparked speculation among fans, with some questioning whether she had left voluntarily.
However, several weeks after her surprising revelation, Ken Jennings, who had been sharing hosting duties with her, finally addressed her departure in a recent interview.
During the conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Jennings expressed his surprise and dismay at Bialik’s abrupt exit from the show, highlighting that it was unexpected. “It took me off guard,” he told the news outlet. “Because I loved working with my Mayim, and I’m going to miss her.”
He clarified that he was unaware of the motivations behind the 48-year-old’s choice to resign from her hosting responsibilities. “I can’t speak to her decision-making process or her opinions about it,” he emphasized.
During the discussion, the 49-year-old expressed his satisfaction at being appointed as the exclusive host of the show. “But on my end, I’m just a fan of Jeopardy! and I’m always delighted to host when they call upon me,” Jennings admitted. “I just feel extremely lucky to have even been considered for this job as a non-broadcaster.”
Jennings expressed his anticipation of continuing as the host, emphasizing his commitment to upholding the esteemed legacy of the late and enduring host, Alex Trebek. “It’s kind of a weird thing to try to bring back an ex-contestant to host, and I’ve obviously been learning as I go. But I loved growing up with ‘Jeopardy!’ where Alex was the host of that show for almost 38 years, and people just kind of felt like he was part of their family, and it’s impossible to fill those shoes,” he confessed. “But it’s such an honor, and hopefully, I look forward to 37 more years of doing it when I’ll be a very, very old man.”
