As Bruce Willis’ Frontotemporal Dementia worsens, his daughters have been spending more time with him and sharing updates about his health via social media. One of his adult children, Scout LaRue, shared a heartbreaking snap of Bruce looking confused and aloof during Thanksgiving, proving his situation.
According to reports, the Die Hard actor is almost always surrounded by family, including his ex-wife, Scout’s mom, Demi Moore, and their two older daughters. Bruce’s current wife, Emma Hemming, is also open about her struggles as his primary caregiver and the mother of two kids.
A challenging holiday

Bruce’s family has grown more intentional about enjoying time with him due to the likelihood that this holiday may be his last. They intend to keep him happy with his favorite dishes, their mere presence, and even stories, as Bruce was known to be a voracious reader until FTD set in, hindering his ability to read, write, or communicate.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration, Susan Dickenson, told Today that Bruce’s disorder can lead to “unexplained changes in how a person is in the world.”
“Somebody who normally speaks absolutely fine has trouble putting their thoughts into meaningful sentences, or they may lose the meaning of a specific word,” she explained.
It’s the family’s disease too

Emma Hemming opened up to Hoda Kotb during World Frontotemporal Dementia Week about the family’s struggle to adapt to the new Bruce. “Dementia is hard. It’s hard on the person diagnosed – it’s also hard on the family. And that is no different for Bruce, or myself, or our girls,” she said. “When they say this is a family disease, it really is.”
Over time, she has also come to terms with the development, which does not make it any less painful. “To finally understand what was happening so that I could be into the acceptance of what is…just being in the know of what is happening to Bruce makes it a little easier,” Emma Hemming added. The British model promised to continue raising awareness about FTD to help others in her position.
