Brenda Lee is back at 78 years old with a fitting music video for her holiday song, “Rocking Around The Christmas Tree.” Tanya Tucker and Trisha Yearwood joined the Rock & Roll and Country Music Hall of Fame artists to revive the 1958 classic, which Brenda released at 13. In the video, she performed in a gorgeous red caftan, with a festive backdrop of red drapes and a lit Christmas tree behind her.
Lee released a statement in celebration of the song’s 65th anniversary, which read, “For those out there who know me and have supported me and my music through the years, I’m very proud to be putting out the first ever music video for ‘Rockin.’ This song has been so special to me— I never thought it would be my signature song, but I love that it is because it brings so much joy.”
Brenda releases a new EP
The re-released track is one of many songs featured on Brenda’s new EP, A Rockin’ Christmas With Brenda Lee, which also features “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” and “A Marshmallow World,” reimagined by Austrian music producer Filous.

She wished everyone a Merry Christmas while reminiscing about her work on the hit over six decades ago. “I remember the day I recorded this wonderful Johnny Marks song, and here we are 65 years later and I’m only here because of you. I won’t ever meet all of you, but I know you are there and have been since I was a little girl— so thank you and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas!” she said.
Reactions to the new video
Social media users were delighted to see Brenda on their screen, particularly those who grew up listening to the hit. “She said ‘I CAME TO SLEIGH’” a comment on X, formerly Twitter read. “The other girls should be very very afraid,” a user wrote, warning other holiday hitmakers with another agreeing, “I love Mariah but Brenda deserves a #1 Christmas song too.”
Trisha celebrated Brenda on Facebook, calling the song one of her Christmas favorites over the years. “I was elated when I got the invite to be in Brenda Lee’s video. Her ONLY video EVER!!! It was released 65 years ago!!! She’s the Perennial Queen of Christmas in my book!!!” she gushed. The song is available for streaming across various platforms.
