Brigitte Nielsen Opens Up About Raising 5-Year-Old Daughter In Her 60s

Despite having four sons between the ages of 29-38, Brigitte Nielson decided she was not done with motherhood and won’t succumb to the worldview that older women shouldn’t bear kids. The 60-year-old star is a mother to a beautiful 5-year-old, Frida, whose pregnancy she claims was the “easiest” she carried.

“It was the easiest pregnancy I ever had,” Brigitte said to People. “Maybe because I had done it four times before, and my priorities had shifted. It was a deep, deep desire within me and a choice.” Although she felt that “half” of the universe was against her giving birth at 54, she went on nevertheless.

Brigitte tried for years

With a 23-year difference between Raoul, Brigitte’s youngest son, and Frida, the actress said she had “had a long time to prepare for” her little daughter, as she had been trying to conceive through IVF for 13 years. Her joy knew no bounds when she set her eyes on Frida.

“The doctor warned me to be realistic about my chances. He told me I had a two-and-a-half percent chance of getting pregnant, so when it finally happened, it was just amazing,” Brigitte revealed. “And then there was fear because I was such high risk, being 54.”

She is in a much better position now to be a mother

Brigitte went on to educate people about giving birth at an old age decision. “But first of all, there’s no such thing as ‘too old,'” she emphasized. “We don’t say that to men who have children in their 60s, 70s, even 80s! Look at Robert De Niro. He’s 79, and he has a 7-month-old.”

She claims her old age makes her a better mother as she has the necessary requirements, “I feel like I have that mindset and emotion. I have the patience and that extra bit of love to give now, and I think it’s because I’m a grandmother’s age,” Brigitte stated. “When I was a younger mom, I was often juggling being single, being on a plane, on a movie set. Now Frida comes first.”
