Seinfeld dominated the small screen for nine seasons in the ’90s, and recent rumors suggest that the show about nothing might just be cooking up something fresh. However, if a reboot is in the works, actor Jason Alexander hasn’t heard anything about it.
From 1989 to 1998, Alexander filled the role of George Costanza, best friend of the titular Jerry Seinfeld. His slippery tongue made George one of the show’s most memorable characters, even if those around him had a hard time figuring George out or enduring his cynicism. Fans have recently speculated that a reboot might be in the works, but Alexander has some differing views on the matter.
Alexander recently participated in an interview with Extra, in which he discussed the resurgence in rumors of a Seinfeld reunion of some kind. “There is only one reason for that rumor,” he said. “Apparently, at the end of some stand-up thing, [Seinfeld] went, ‘Larry [David] and I are thinking of something.'”
He was referring to a comedy show done by Jerry Seinfeld, who supposedly spoke with series co-creator Larry David.
“Good for you,” Alexander continued. “I don’t know anything about it… No one called me. Apparently, they don’t need George.”
Alexander isn’t the only one reportedly in the dark about a new Seinfeld project. “They may not need Elaine, because Julia [Louis-Dreyfus] and I went, ‘Do you know anything about this? I don’t know anything about this,'” he continued, “and I just talked to Michael [Richards] the other day and I don’t think he knew anything about it.”
In an interview with The Guardian last month, Louis-Dreyfus echoed these uncertain sentiments. “Yeah, I just saw [that news] last night,” she said immediately following the suggested reboot rumors. “I don’t know what the hell he’s talking about.”
Seinfeld had been discussing the divisive ending of the show with some fans. He responded, “Well, I have a little secret for you about the ending. But I can’t really tell it because it is a secret. Here’s what I’ll tell you. OK? But you can’t tell anybody. Something is going to happen that has to do with that ending. Hasn’t happened yet.”
