Out of respect for Matthew Perry’s tragic passing, some fans have asked that a scene from Friends be removed. Given that the clip — from Season 5’s “The One with the Engagement Picture” — happens to “predict” the actor’s death, those fans have deemed it “eerie.”
It originally aired in 2000 and features Perry’s Chandler and Courteney Cox’s Monica taking professional photos for their wedding announcement. While Chandler forces a smile, Monica jokes, “What is the matter with your face? Like, this picture is supposed to say Gellar and Bing to be married. Not local woman saves drowning moron.”
Fans press to have it taken out

After Monica playfully chides Chandler, the photographer chuckles, and she snaps at him, saying, “Hey, don’t laugh at him! He’s my drowning moron,” and Chandler naturally smiles in response. Perry, of course, recently died by apparent drowning in his Los Angeles apartment, and fans could not get past how coincidental Monica’s quote was.

A video of the moment was posted to TikTok and amassed over 13 million views and thousands of comments agreeing with the sentiment. “Could this scene BE any more eerie?” someone wrote, and another agreed, adding, “They gotta take this scene out of the show, man. They pretty much predicted the future.”
Reactions to Monica’s prediction
Although many people blatantly called for a deletion of the scene, some thought it was unnecessary. “Everyone saying delete this scene was too young or not even born when this scene happened… let the show stay how it was intended!” someone said.
Another agreed it was a funny scene and should be left alone. “Yes, he had a good sense of humor and was good at making people laugh, let’s leave the laughs he provided for us in that show as is,” they wrote.
