Celine Dion was seen in public for the first time in over three years amid her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis. Dion made her rare appearance at an ice hockey game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Vegas Golden Knights.

Fans flocked around her as she cheerfully posed with them for photos in good spirits, giving them a sense of comfort despite her health struggles. Montreal’s Vice President of Hockey Communications, Chantal Machabée, shared a photo of the 55-year-old singer on her Instagram as well.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer did not show up alone, she brought along her sons René-Charles and twins Nelson and Eddy to the sports ceremony. Chantal shared Dion’s presence with her followers using the caption, “A great visit to our game in Vegas yesterday. Thank you, Celine Dion, for your generosity. The whole team was very happy to meet you and your family.”

Since finding out she had Moersch-Woltman syndrome, or stiff person syndrome, in 2022, Dion became stricter about keeping off the spotlight. She announced her incurable neurological disorder in December of the same year while having to cancel her tour to that effect. She assured fans that she was “working really hard to build back my strength” and “not giving up.”

How is Dion coping with her health challenge?

Stiff-person syndrome is known to affect twice as many women as men, causing rigidity in the torso and limbs. Another symptom that has dramatically affected Dion’s ability to sing and perform is muscle spasms. “She’s doing everything to recover. She’s a strong woman. There are spasms— they’re impossible to control,” her sister, Claudette, recently told Hello! Canada.

She also added that Dion now has their other sister, Linda, at home with her, which is “comforting for us all.” “There’s little we can do to support her, to alleviate her pain. We’re crossing our fingers that researchers will find a remedy for this awful illness. We love her for the person she is,” Claudette added,
