Joey’s Hug Meme Becomes New Symbol As World Marks The Passing Of Matthew Perry

Matthew Perry’s death comes as a shock to the world and most especially to his family, as the actor did not show any sign of illness prior to his death. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend,” the family announced. “You all meant so much to him, and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”

Following his death, Friends cast members and other celebrities have been mourning his untimely death and paying tribute to the late star. His fan base has also decided to immortalize the legend by sharing a meme of him from his role as Chandler in Friends, which launched him into the limelight.

In a bid to cope with Matthew Perry’s shocking death, his fans are spotlighting the values his character embodied in his career-launching sitcom series, Friends. The actor played Chandler Bing in the sitcom Friends (1994-2004), one out of six friends who lived in New York City.

In the TV series, Matthew’s character Chandler is big on friendship, just like the name of the series, and he didn’t hesitate to show it as he would always hug his co-star Matt LeBlanc, who played his friend Joey Tribbiani. This frequent gesture that was synonymous with Perry’s character has been labeled a symbol of friendship, and his fans are determined to make it Perry’s legacy as they make memes of their hugging scenes and tag it “Joey’s hug meme.”

Matthew Perry’s fans are celebrating him for his brilliant performance in Friends and how they learned a great deal of lessons from his character, Chandler. “In short, he is like a warm hug when you are feeling cold. Chandler Bing, Matthew Perry is always going to have a special place in my heart, even tho Friends is never going to make me laugh again,” a fan wrote. “A smile, maybe..but no laughs..”
