John Stamos Admits He Got A Nose Job After Being Bullied About It For Years

In his new memoir, If You Would Have Told Me, John Stamos got candid about going under the knife. Growing up, he was concerned about his nose and suffered bullying, which made him opt for plastic surgery a few years into his acting career. “That nose. It bothers me,” he wrote.

The actor recalled being teased as “Big Nose Stamos” as a child and how his mother supported him and ensured he felt safe despite his vain concerns. “It matters to her that I don’t get so swept up in the moment that I lose my connection to family, friends, faith, and fun,” he added.

Stamos became more self-conscious after his big break in the early ‘80s on General Hospital after seeing himself on-screen. “When I see it on TV for the first time, it’s all I can look at. Fixating on my nose is beginning to detract from my performance. Plus, the early years of bullying…have me ready to make a change,” he recalled.

Sadly, he was unimpressed by the results of his first attempt, so he opted for a surgeon with a good track record the next time. “My nose looks kind of pushed up like Peter Pan or something. So on my next hiatus, I have it redone by Michael Jackson’s plastic surgeon,” he stated. “Who better to handle the delicate task of resculpting my nose than the man who created a whole new face for M.J.?”

Celebrities get insecure, too

Behind the glamor and admiration from fans, celebrities also have insecurities about their appearance, although Stamos now believes there is no other excuse for altering one’s look other than insecurity. “Everyone who gets a nose job tries to find some excuse other than vanity, but let’s call it what it was— vanity,” he insisted.

Other stars like Sia, Vanessa Williams, and even Sex and the City’s Kim Cattrall have previously bared it all when it comes to their plastic surgery procedures. Unlike Stamos, Kim does not think it is a “vanity thing,” but a way to manage the changes that come with aging. “There’s so many different things that you can investigate and try and see if it’s for you. It’s not just a vanity thing,” she told Sunday Times.
