Barry Williams is still competing on Dancing With The Stars with his pro-partner Peta Murgatroyd and is set to dance the Paso Doble to “Born to Be Wild” by Steppenwolf for week five’s “Most Memorable Year” night. The Brady Bunch alum is determined to win the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy but, more importantly, to go further than his TV sister and show rival, Maureen McCormick.
For Brady, surpassing Maureen serves as the payback for his loss during the cone-driving contest in Brady Bunch’s season five episode, “The Driver’s Seat.” “I have to do that. I lost that egg on the cone driving contest and she never let me live it down,” he told EW.
Barry’s character, Greg, had challenged Maureen’s Marcia to a bet that men are better drivers than women. They decided to drive close to a cone with an egg on it without breaking it to prove— or disprove the statement, and Marcia won. Over two decades later, Barry is determined to get his lick back.
The actor, however, noted that it is simply fun, and they are very supportive of each other. “We’ve all been supportive of each other in various projects,” he noted. He mentioned Maureen texting him up before every show, and we could see Susan Olsen cheering him in the ballroom during his performance. “There are projects that Maureen has done that I’ve also supported. This is what we do for our sisters, our brothers, for our family— and it’s very gratifying,” he added.
Maureen showed tremendous support for Barry after he announced his cast on Season 32 via X, formerly Twitter. “It’s official! I will be dancing my way into your hearts on #DWTS,” he posted. Maureen responded in the comments with heart emojis and shouted him out hours before the premiere. “Wishing the loveliest fellow all the best tonight on @dancingwiththestars !!! Goooooo Barry!!! @thebarrywilliams,” she wrote.
Barry gave DWTS a shot after appearing on The Masked Singer partly because his TV mom, Florence Henderson— who died of heart failure in 2016, encouraged him to. “She made no bones about it. She wanted me to pursue being on the show and to win it,” he said. She competed on the show in 2010, partnering up with Corky Ballas.
