Sharon Osbourne Confirms Euthanasia Plan With Ozzy Osbourne Still Stands

More than a decade ago, Sharon Osbourne mentioned that she and her husband, Ozzy, have plans in place for euthanasia if the need arises. She told the Daily Mirror in 2007 that if they “ever have an illness that affects our brains,” they would go to an assisted suicide flat in Switzerland to get euthanized.

Sharon recently confirmed that the plan is still in place on an episode of The Osbournes podcast after son Jack brought it up. She made the decision with Ozzy after her musician father, Don Arden, died from Alzheimer’s in 2007. “If Ozzy or I ever got Alzheimer’s, that’s it—we’d be off,” she told the outlet that year.

While her kids probed her about the euthanasia plan, Sharon insisted it was the best thing to do and defended her choice. “Do you think that we’re gonna suffer?” Sharon joked, to which Jack cheekily replied, “Aren’t we already all suffering?”

“Yes, we all are, but I don’t want it to actually hurt, as well. Mental suffering is enough pain without physical. So if you’ve got mental and physical, see ya,” she responded.

Even after daughter Kelly pointed out that she could survive potential illnesses, Sharon said it does not guarantee being able to function as usual. “Yeah, what if you survived and you can’t wipe your own a—, you’re p—ing everywhere, s—ing, can’t eat,” the TV personality shot back.

The family is all in on the plan

Sharon noted in her first public mention about euthanasia that the family was all in on it. “We gathered the kids around the kitchen table, told them our wishes, and they’ve all agreed to go with it,” she said while on TV to promote her memoir, Survivor: My Story, The Next Chapter.

Kelly, who was 23 then, and Jack, 22, recalled their reaction to their parent’s revelation on air. “Do you remember when Mum and Dad did that interview, talking about how they were gonna go and die through assisted suicide, and we were like, ‘What the f— is this?’” Kelly asked Jack, prompting the discussion.
