Barbra Streisand Is Redoing The Ending Of 1968’s ‘Funny Girl’ Because It Doesn’t ‘Make Sense’

James Brolin made headlines recently when he delved into a discussion about his wife Barbra Streisand’s beloved musical film. During an appearance on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, the 83-year-old shared that his wife is working on a new ending for her classic film.

However, Brolin gave inaccurate information regarding the date and the specific movie she was working on. The actor then took the necessary steps to clarify the misinformation by openly coming out to set the record straight and tender his apology.

Funny Girl, directed by William Wyler and written by Isobel Lennart, as an adaptation of her book for the stage musical of the same title, hit theatres in 1968. However, while discussing on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, Brolin mistakenly revealed that Streisand was working on fixing the ending of the movie in preparation for its 50th anniversary.

“She’s colorizing it and adding the scenes back in that — because it didn’t make sense, that movie,” he told the host. “In the end, it didn’t make sense why they split, and she’s putting it all back together for the 50th anniversary.”

James Brolin tenders apology for his mistake

The 83-year-old, in a statement to The Wrap, provided clarity regarding the statement. He acknowledged that he inadvertently referred to his wife’s 1973 film, The Way We Were, which is set to be re-released later this year instead of Funny Girl.

In light of the honest mistake, he sincerely extended an unreserved apology to both his wife and her devoted fans. “To My Wife Barbra and all her fans,” the statement read. “Drinking tequila with Bill Maher on his ‘Club Random’ podcast recently, I mistakenly mentioned the wrong film. I meant to say my wife was working on ‘The Way We Were.‘ Apologies for all the confusion … Jim Brolin.”
