Sophia Loren is currently hospitalized with several severe fractures after she fell over the weekend, one of her representatives revealed. Loren, based recently in her Geneva, Switzerland home, had been in her bathroom when she fell on Sunday.
The incident left Loren, who just turned 89 on September 20, with several fractures, including to her hip and femur. The actress, recognized as one of the best from the classical Hollywood era, was quickly hospitalized and had to undergo surgery. Here is the latest on her prognosis.
Over the weekend, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Loren had a “bad fall at her Swiss home” that resulted in “several fractures to her hip, and a serious fracture to her femur which needed surgery.” To treat her injuries, Loren underwent emergency surgery.
However, representatives have voiced optimism that Loren will have a smooth and thorough recovery. However, all of Loren’s public engagements scheduled for the near future have been canceled until further notice.
If Loren and her care team have anything to say, however, this may not be the case for too long, as she is receiving abundant support.
The Instagram page for her eating establishment, Sophia Loren Restaurant, shared information about Loren’s falling incident. It also provided fans with some updates after her surgery. “Operated with a positive outcome,” the post revealed after translating, adding, “she will now have to observe a short period of recovery and follow a road to rehabilitation.”
It continued, “Thankfully everything worked out for the best and the Lady will be back with us very soon. The whole team at Sophia Loren Restaurant takes this opportunity to wish her a speedy recovery.”
Also there to wish her a speedy recovery are Loren’s sons, 54-year-old Carlo Jr. and 50-year-old Edoardo, who have been at her side at the hospital throughout her treatment.
Besides this incident, Loren had just said back in late 2020 that she felt her youngest. “Sometimes when I say I’m 86, I don’t believe it. I feel 20,” she expressed. She internalized a youthful, confident optimism that keeps her as upbeat as she was during her reign as a classical Hollywood actress.
