Michael Jackson's Moonwalk Hat Up For Auction

In 1983, the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, amused his fans during his Motown Concert held at Pasadena Civic Auditorium by tossing his hat to the side of the stage just before captivating the world with his unforgettable moonwalk dance and an electrifying rendition of “Billie Jean.”

Four decades after the unforgettable event, the hat that the singer threw nonchalantly has transformed into an iconic relic of pop culture, and it is set to take center stage once again, but this time not under the spotlight of a concert, but on the auction block in the romantic and culturally rich city of Paris.

While the fedora undoubtedly stands as the crown jewel among the 200 rock memorabilia items set to go under the hammer, the auction organizer, Arthur Perault of the Artpeges gallery, candidly acknowledged a recent downturn in the valuations of Jackson-related items, which he attributed to a combination of factors, including the unfortunate proliferation of the market with counterfeits and the controversies that have clouded the late singer’s legacy.
