Weeks after her birthday, Julie Newmar had an intimate dinner with her friends to continue celebrating her turning 90. The longtime actress, known for her role as Catwoman in ‘60s TV show Batman, shared posts on social media as she relished turning a year older.
“Friends for dinner at my 90th— so much love,” she captioned the photo, which featured her in a black sweater and standing behind a chocolate cake adorned with a golden figure 90 topper. In the snap, Julie stretched out her arms and smiled as she gestured to her close friends nearby.
Fans were ecstatic to see Julie, who celebrated her birthday in the company of friends and family. “You look wonderful! So happy to see this!” someone wrote, with another affirming the same, adding that she looked “fabulous.”
Others commended Julie’s looks as she has managed to stay youthful well into old age. “I wanna look as good as you when I reach 90! Love ya!” someone hoped. Last year, the mother of one also celebrated her birthday for a while, with a photo of her only son, John Jewl Smith, and a banquet with family members.
The actress wrote about her ordeal with cancer on her blog. “Last week was the 7th or 8th surgery for cancer I have had on my face. I don’t understand,” Julie said. “I never went out in the sun. My mother’s advice was always wise.”
She also admitted she was “100% guilty” of the “emotional causes of cancer,” which she learned from an article while researching. As the provider for her family of five, Julie goes to a fancy doctor in Beverly Hills for maintenance because her “face is important.”
Aside from her health struggles, the nonagenarian is also a dedicated mother and primary caregiver to her son, who was born with Down Syndrome. “Parents should never feel like they have an afflicted child,” she noted. “He’s the cause of the great expansion of my outlook on life. He’s responsible for my understanding and practice of unconditional love.”
John is a talented artist, and Julie was excited to announce his exhibition at the Washington Reid Gallery in Culver City, California.
