Willpower is, itself, a force of nature, as necessary as water and air, to get anything done. An idea or plan can manifest, but it won’t get anywhere without that extra push. It’s exactly that go-getter attitude that 99-year-old Mildred Kirschenbaum has in spades as she celebrates her 100th birthday this August.
All the while, Mildred is advising those around her to look at life from a new perspective and maintain a positive attitude. She’s become something of a viral hit on social media, and with this platform, she shares bits about her remarkable life and the wisdom that comes with a century on Earth.
Tyla describes Mildred as an influencer in her own right. Whenever she’s in front of the camera, she’s sharing important lessons so others might follow her to 100. “I enjoy every day,” she told TODAY, adding, “It’s attitude, attitude” that helps keep her going.
She elaborated further in a video, saying, “I will be 100 years old in August – it’s only a couple of months away – and yet I have friends who are 20 years younger, 15 years younger, and their attitudes are gonna cause them not to survive to my age.” She says “They’re not grateful for anything. Their attitude is ‘I don’t see my kids more than once a week’ or ‘the food I was served was cold, was bad, was not good.’ Their attitude is not acceptable – if the food isn’t quite right, so have an extra dessert.”
Her daughter describes Mildred as one “brilliant financial investor.” In fact, some of her free time is spent trading stocks on her computer. This 99-year-old also still lives independently; she drives herself and loves to travel!
After almost a century on this planet, Mildred “has no censor,” says her daughter, 68-year-old Gayle Kirschenbaum, adding, “she loves attention and she’s an extrovert. She’ll walk into the clubhouse, and it’s like the queen has arrived and this is her court. She lives life to the fullest. She is not riddled with fears.” If there is something not to her liking, Mildred simply flips the script, changes her perspective, and maintains an upbeat attitude.
A very happy almost-100th-birthday, Mildred Kirschenbaum!
