Recently, Kevin Bacon marked his 65th birthday in the company of his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, with whom he has been happily married for 35 years. The actor shared a photo of himself alongside the delicious roasted chicken prepared by his wife for his special day on his Instagram page.
“My wife has made this a beautiful day,” the actor captioned the post. ‘She has said that our marriage is like roast chicken recently, so she made a perfect chicken for dinner, followed by my favorite— buckwheat banana bread with chocolate icing. Perfect day.”
Kevin Bacon’s rise to stardom
At the young age of 17, the actor made his initial foray into the entertainment industry with his notable appearance in the film National Lampoon’s Animal House before playing the role of Jack Burrell in the 1980 movie Friday the 13th.

However, his breakthrough role came when he was cast as the new kid in town, Ren McCormack, in the 1984 American musical drama film Footloose. This role propelled him to stardom and solidified his presence in the industry.
Kevin Bacon says he did not want to take up the role in ‘Footloose’
During a 2013 interview on The Howard Stern Show, Bacon disclosed that he initially had reservations about accepting the role in Footloose. “I was really resistant to the whole ‘Footloose’ thing because I was an idiot. I was young, and I thought, ‘Well this is f—ed up because now I’m not gonna be thought of as a serious actor,” he admitted on the TV show. “I wanted to be [Robert] De Niro and [Al] Pacino, I didn’t want to be the guy from ‘Footloose.'”
While appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in February 2015, Bacon explained that he enjoyed recreating the ‘angry warehouse dance’ scene. “My idea was much simpler. I thought it would be fun to do something for ‘Footloose,’ but I thought that maybe I would be teaching you how to dance, a la ‘Let’s Hear It For the Boy.’ When I got the pitch back from you guys, it was like angry warehouse dance, and I thought, ‘Oh no, I can’t do the angry warehouse dance, that’s just too much. It was so elaborate, but your team was so great that I just kind of plugged into it,” he confessed. “The night before, at about two o’clock in the morning, and I’m standing in my kitchen, and I’m trying to remember some of these moves, and I’d seen the thing that you had put together, and I had to go and rent ‘Footloose’ on Netflix because I didn’t have the movie.”
Kevin Bacon became a family man after ‘Footloose’
Three years after his time on Footloose, the actor crossed paths with his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, during the filming of the 1987 movie Lemon Sky. Bacon immediately fell in love with the actress and asked her out on a date.
The lovers started dating thereafter, and about a year later, they tied the knot. The celebrity couple are proud parents to two children, Travis and Sossie. “The proudest accomplishment of my life is my children,” he told Closer magazine in May 2017. “Being a parent [means] bringing them up and trying to teach them and have them learn by example to be good, decent, compassionate, hardworking people.”
“Our kids are very independent,” Bacon added, “My son refused to let me teach him how to ride a bike or how to swim. Those are dangerous things! But both my children were a lot like me when I was a kid — they didn’t really come to us for advice or help.”
Having been together for the past three and half decades, the couple’s love continues to grow and wax stronger. They regularly share their family time and happy moments with their fans on social media.
