Jennifer Grant Speaks Out About Dad Cary Grant’s Alleged Gay Affairs

Jennifer Grant says she was not aware of her dad’s sexuality

In an interview with The Guardian to discuss her upcoming biopic series Archie, which is about her father Cary Grant’s life, Jennifer Grant firmly stated that she had no knowledge that her father wasn’t straight. “If you’re around your parents a lot, you see them in ways that almost no one else does,” she admitted to the news outlet. “And I never saw a hint of that.”

She further revealed that she would still have loved her dad even if she was aware of his sexuality. “I think I would have picked up on it – not that I would’ve cared. But I have to speak the truth of the matter: Dad was charming, and he had great friendships, but he wasn’t flirtatious with men,” Jennifer Grant said. “A friend of mine sent me a picture the other day of Gregory Peck, my father, and Mervyn LeRoy and they’re good buddies. But I never got that hint. Perhaps earlier in his life, he had an affair [with a man]. I’ll never know, but if he did, fantastic. I hope he enjoyed it.”

Jennifer Grant says she was tagged homophobic for trying to defend her father

The actress stated that her 2011 memoir, Good Stuff: A Reminiscence of My Father, Cary Grant, was written to shut down the allegations of homosexuality against her dad. She added that the book resulted in her getting backlash as she was tagged homophobic. “I received a mail saying that I was anti-gay,” Jennifer wrote, “which couldn’t be further from the truth.”

The Beverly Hills actress further revealed that her dad had a very amiable personality, and being tagged as gay was quite interesting for him. “Can’t blame men for wanting him, and wouldn’t be surprised if Dad even mildly flirted back. When the question arises, it generally speaks more about the person asking,” she wrote in the book. “Dad somewhat enjoyed being called gay. He said it made women want to prove the assertion wrong.”
