Madonna Now Shares Iconic Chart Record Alongside Cher

Cher, who is popularly known as the ‘Goddess of Pop,’ has an impressive career spanning over six decades in the entertainment industry. Cher holds the record for the first woman who had songs charting on the Billboard Hot 100 for up to five consecutive decades.

Recently, Madonna became the second woman to ever achieve the same feat as Cher. The ‘Queen of Pop’ as she is fondly called by her fans, hit the record with her song “Popular.”

Madonna recorded “Popular”  in collaboration with The Weeknd and Playboi Carti for the HBO TV series, The Idol. Interestingly, this is the first time since 2015 that the pop queen is making the Billboard 100 charts; however, despite both singers holding the same record, their songs charted on the billboard at different times.

Cher had some of her singles on the Hot 100 charts between the ‘60s and 2000s, while Madonna’s songs consistently appeared from the ‘80s through the 2020s. Following closely after Cher and Madonna is the “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” song by Brenda Lee, which has appeared on the Hot 100 for five decades— from the ‘50s to the ‘70s, and then the 2010s and 2020s.

Other ‘Billboard’ charting debut songs

Also, in the male category, music icons like Elvis Presley have had their songs debut on the Hot 100 charts across seven decades, with pop legends Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney following closely with debut singles charting across six decades.

Interestingly, Cher and Madonna have set the bar for females and are still working tirelessly to achieve more success. Madonna’s commitment to music cannot be overemphasized, and she is set to wow her fans with her tour this summer, which “will be highlighting her unmatched catalog of music from the past 40-plus years.”
