However, despite her dazzling performance, it was the unexpected revelation by the singer that got everyone’s attention. Boyle shared a surprising update about her health during her appearance, disclosing that she had experienced a minor scare in April 2022— a piece of news that came as a shock to the audience.

Following her powerful performance of the ballad, BGT hosts Dec Donnelly and Ant McPartlin took the opportunity to inquire about her emotions as she returned to the very stage that propelled her to stardom all those years ago. “It feels great,” Boyle admitted. “It is extra special for me actually because last April there, I suffered a minor stroke.”

The singer revealed that the sickness took a toll on her, and she struggled back to regain her place in the limelight after her illness. “I have fought like crazy to get back on stage,” she confessed. “And I have done it.”

After the event, Boyle took to Instagram to shed more light on the profound effect the stroke had on her singing ability. “For the past year, I have worked so hard to get my speech and singing back with the sole aim of being able to sing on stage again,” she wrote in the caption. “Tonight, my hard work & perseverance paid off, singing the song that started it all.”

In a poignant moment during Boyle’s appearance, Simon Cowell, a longtime judge of Britain’s Got Talent, seized the opportunity to express heartfelt sentiments about the singer’s impact and the special place she holds in the hearts of both the show and its viewers. “Susan, we owe you so much, and I knew you weren’t well,” he admitted to Boyle. “But if anyone was going to come back, you were going to come back because we wouldn’t be the same without you.”
