Paulina Porizkova Says She’s Dating Again Despite “Trust Issues”

From 1989 to 2019, Paulina Porizkova was married to singer-songwriter and record producer Ric Ocasek. Ocasek died at the age of 75 and Porizkova kept dating off her radar. But now, she says she is up to reentering the pool.

In fact, she already cast out a line and hooked a fish. Making this choice, though, comes with its share of trepidation. Porizkova, 57, admits she has trust issues. So, she has something of a litmus test – or a key point she has brought up to her potential beau – in the form of a relationship book. Here is where Porizkova stands about dating and trust after Ocasek.

Paulina Porizkova is dating again

The book is Us. The author is Terrence Real. It’s a relationship self-help tome and it’s been valuable to Porizkova regarding dating, in more ways than one. On the one hand, its contents have been helpful enough Porizkova has been using it to read up on the delicate topic of dating. On the other, it’s going to be helpful to whoever Porizkova set her eyes on.

“I was reading it when i was single, and I thought, ‘The next man I meet where I feel like the potential for a relationship is going to go somewhere, I’m going to make them read this book before we get anywhere for real,'” she explained. “And so I can say, I’ve just handed that book up to somebody.”

So far, things are off to a promising start. “We had the most amazing conversations about ourselves and where we are going and what we want,” shared Porizkova. “So it was a fantastic conversation piece, actually.”

Learning to love and trust

Contemplating the dating game seemed a far-removed possibility for Porizkova, who “didn’t even know that I could ever trust anyone again to want to be in a relationship.” Havijg such “trust issues,” Porizkova admits “my work is cut out for me.”

Part of these dilemmas comes from the way she and Ocasek’s relationship ended. A year before the Cars frontman died, the couple ended up estranged. Theirs was a complicated relationship since Ocasek was so “controlling.” His actions felt like a “betrayal.”

“He didn’t want me to do anything,” she revealed. “He didn’t want me to go anywhere. He wanted me to be within his circle at all times. I was his soul emotional provider for everything, and I confused that with love.”

So, for now, she’s cautious.
