Diane Keaton Speaks About Living Happily As A Single Woman, Why She Won’t Date

In a recent interview with AARP, Diane Keaton shared some insights into her personal life, including her thoughts on love and relationships. Despite being single, the 77-year-old  made it clear that she is not actively looking to start dating. When asked about her dating life, Keaton responded, “I don’t date.” And while she has been romantically involved with several famous bachelors in the past, such as Al Pacino, Woody Allen, and Warren Beatty, the Love and Death star seems content with her current single status.

Although Keaton has never been married, that doesn’t mean she hasn’t experienced love. In fact, she has openly discussed her past relationships in interviews and even wrote a memoir, Then Again, in which she delves into her personal life and those relationships.

Diane Keaton reveals why she will remain single

The actress revealed that she has no plans of dating and it’s “highly unlikely” that she would consider starting a new relationship in the future. Keaton further buttressed her point in a way many people can relate with. “I don’t remember anyone calling me, going, ‘This is so-and-so. I’d like to take you out,'” she said. “They don’t happen. Of course not.”

Last year she told Interview magazine about her views on marriage and why she never believed that it was a possibility for her. “It goes back to my mother, because, for me, most everything does,” Keaton told the news outlet. “I love my dad, of course — that goes without saying — but she was always there, and he was always working. He was working hard, and he was really interesting. And he loved her, too.”

However, the actress felt her mother had to sacrifice a lot to play her role as a mother and wife. “I mentioned watching her get that crowning glory and being Mrs. Highland Park. After that, we moved down to Santa Ana, and it was over,” she added. “There was no more trying things out. I feel like she chose family over her dreams. And she was just the best mother, but I think that she is the reason why I didn’t get married. I didn’t want to give up my independence.”

Diane Keaton says that she has become an empty nester and enjoys the company of her dog

Despite not getting married, the actor started her own family and became a mother at the age of 50 when she adopted her daughter, Dexter. A few years after that, she also adopted her son, Duke and she dotes on both of them.

However, her children are now grown up and they’ve moved out of the house to chase their own careers, leaving her with an empty nest. Keaton revealed to Interview magazine that she finds comfort in the companionship of her dog. “A friend of mine gave her to me. I didn’t even ask for her. He came to me and said, ‘I think you need this dog.’ I was like, ‘OK, I guess?’ Of course, now I just love her.”

Keaton explained to the news outlet, “Dogs are irresistible. They’re just idiots. Reggie is a big jerk, and she’s a great jerk, and she’s hilarious.”
