Richard Gere Hospitalized With Pneumonia While On Family Vacation

Richard Gere was recently hospitalized after he suffered pneumonia during a family trip with his wife and two children. Per TMZ, the 73-year-old actor caught the flu while vacationing in Mexico for his wife, Alejandra Silva’s 40th birthday. A representative for the actor also confirmed the news in a statement made through email to NBC News but refused to make further comments about the situation.

The news outlet revealed that before the family getaway, The American Gigolo star had a bad cough; however, it worsened when he got to Mexico, thus making him check himself into a hospital, where he got the pneumonia diagnosis. Gere stayed overnight in the hospital but was released the following day.

Silva gives an update on Gere’s health

Gere’s wife, Silva took to social media to share information about his husband’s health posting a photo of her and Gere walking with their son on her Instagram, appreciating fans for their support .“I woke up this morning and I saw the news and all your kind and [worried] messages,” she captioned the post. “He is recovering ❤️‍��� he is feeling much better today!”

She further revealed that the actor is much better at the moment. “The worst has already [passed]!” Silva continued. “Thank you all for [your] sweet messages we really appreciate them! ♥️♥️ #thankyou.”

Alejandra Silva revealed that the whole family was sick earlier

Posting details of their trip on Instagram, the publicist shared a picture that showed her walking towards the water on the beach with their kids. In the caption, she gave a hint about some health challenges her family had faced over the past weeks.

“Thank you all for the birthday wishes.. after almost 3 weeks of everyone being sick in our family, today finally I feel much better!” Silva wrote in the caption. “Thank you for all the love ❤️ I give it all back to you! ��� #happybirthday #happy40.”
