Typically, work-related posts dominate the social media feed of Billy Joel on Twitter and Instagram. But he took a recent break – somewhat – from the music to celebrate his daughter Alexa Ray Joel. The occasion? Her 37th birthday, which was on December 29th!

Alexa Ray is the daughter of singer-songwriter Billy Joel with model Christie Brinkley. This was only a partial break from music content since Alexa herself is also a music artist, with several singles on independent record labels. For her birthday, though, it was all about wishing her a happy day with a stunning photo.

On Thursday, Joel took to social media to share a photo of daughter Alexa Ray. In it, she is seen wearing a deep red sleeveless dress with modest jewelry while her brown hair hangs loose and free. The background is blurred out but not enough to hide the ornate chandelier hanging behind her serious expression. “Happy Birthday Alexa Ray Joel,” the singer captioned his sweet birthday tribute post.

The photo went up on Instagram and Twitter, where Joel has 542k and 324k followers, respectively, who also extended happy birthday wishes to Alexa Ray. She heard them loud and clear, too, replying, “Thank you so much for all the birthday love,” on Instagram.

Alexa is surrounded by fame, right down to her middle name, which is in honor of Ray Charles; Joel worked with the singer-songwriter fittingly nicknamed “The Genius” for “Baby Grand.” But Alexa Ray has been building a musical legacy of her own over the years – in more ways than one. For one thing, she’s the inspiration behind Joel’s sensation 1993 song, “Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel).” Needless to say, Alexa lists this as her favorite Joel song.

As for her own work, Alexa already has established her own style, which is known for melodic songwriting. She credits her industry-drenched upbringing for giving her a “unique inside-peek into the songwriting process.” It certainly helped give her an early start; by 15, she was finishing songs and putting together piano accompaniment. Alexa Ray Joel certainly has a lot to celebrate, even when it’s n to her birthday!
