The Conners is a spin-off series of Roseanne, which became quite controversial after they killed off the main character after actress Roseanne Barr made some comments online. The Conners follows the rest of the family and has become a classic. Did you know that one of the episodes is actually banned from being shown on television as a rerun?
The episode in question is in season 5, episode 10. Titled “The Dog Days of Christmas,” Dan Conner (John Goodman) meets his mother-in-law Doris (Jane Curtin) for the first time during the holidays. Dan’s new wife Louise (Katey Sagal) argues with her mother after she shows up in an oversized RV.
Dan sarcastically asks if she ran over any pedestrians or cyclists on her way because the RV is so huge. Doris responds that she could drive over a marching band in her RV and not notice. The line was meant to be a joke but rang a bit too true after a real-world event happened.
After the episode aired, there was an attack on a Christmas Parade in Waukesha in 2021. The episode featuring that line has now been banned due to the sensitivity to those affected by the tragic attack. A motorist drove through a parade, killed six people, and injured many more. Some of the people who were injured were in a marching band, hence why the line is now quite offensive.
The creators of The Conners said at the time, “On behalf of the entire team at The Conners, we’re deeply sorry and extend our sincere apologies to those who are still reliving the Waukesha Christmas parade tragedy.”
